Preschool 1: 4- and 5-year-olds who have never taken swimming lessons.
Swimmers learn how to do these skills on their own:
- Enter the water by walking down the ramp
- Exit the water by walking back up the ramp
- Lower themselves into the water using the side of the pool & pull themselves back up again to exit
- Move at least five yards in the water by walking in the ramp area, moving hand-over-hand along the side of the pool, or by “swimming.”
- Willingly and comfortably submerge their mouths, noses, eyes, ears, faces, and heads.
- Pick up rings from the bottom of the pool in 1-2 feet of water
- Blow bubbles in the water for at least three seconds
With the teacher’s help, swimmers in Preschool 1 learn how to:
- Glide on their front for at least two body lengths
- Roll onto their back and float for three seconds
- After gliding/floating, they stand up in the ramp area or pull themselves upright using the side of the pool.
After completing Preschool 1, swimmers should sign up for Preschool 2.
